CHALLENGE
As a city official I want to evaluate the impact in the close by traffic load of transforming Stadiou street in the center of Athens to a complete pedestrian and cycling route.
STATUS : started
LOCATION : Greece, Athens
TARGET AUDIENCE : Policymakers, city officials, city employees, public transportation experts
APPROACH
In order to simulate the creation of a green route in the center of Athens that includes high traffic congestion, the closure of a central street will be tested and evaluated, namely Stadiou street.
EXPECTED OUTCOME
If the result in nearby traffic load is forecatsted to be acceptable in terms of congestion then the green routing can actually be planned and implemented by the city. Alternatively it can be tested the closure of Stadiou is specific time slots or parts.

Layers adding
In the upper menu “Contect”-> “Data” you can navigate in the available datasets. By default the “athens_terrain” and “traffic_athens” are already displayed. No extra layers are necessarry for this case.
Closing Stadiou street
To close Stadiou street in both traffic directions, click on the “Analysis” button in the main menu.
A new window will open with instructions on how to do the closure. Select a road segment or more segmants and select “Block this road segment(s). Select “integrate air model results” for the correlation of traffic with air pollution results or “integrate noise model results” for the correlation of traffic with noise pollution results.
Click on “Start Analysis” and the model starts calculating, please wait 7-10 minutes. A relative message pops up while the models are re-calculated.
Results of the simulation
You will find the result of the calculation in the “Data” section of the main menu, tab “air model results” or “noise model results”. To activate the layer, click on the “+” symbol on the right side.
In the “content” button, the overview of all data layers is added on the left side. Now you can switch on/off layers to investigate your simulation in detail. See the effect of the changes in the delta layer that is calculated. Experiment by activating/deactivating the layer of Reference, Result and Delta.
By clicking on the “i” in each layer you can monitor the explanation of the results
