CHALLENGE
Ghent is one of the major cities of Flanders and is home to 265,000 inhabitants. During spring 2022, a new bicycle tunnel was constructed near the city centre. The impact of the planned works on traffic was fairly large and well researched.
APPROACH
By using the DUET solution, a simulation is made of the partial closure of the Nieuwewandeling (direction to the city centre).
For this simulation, the start and the end of the road were closed.
EXPECTED OUTCOME
Since this is road is heavily used, the closure may have a high impact on traffic.
Click the hyperlink below and see the delta layer.
Dark green = high decrease in the traffic intensity
Light green = modest decrease in the traffic intensity
Light pink = modest increase in the traffic intensity
Dark pink = high increase in the traffic intensity
For this case we used terrain data, the LOD2 buildings and the Ghent road network.
